Booking my dentist by smartphone app

I love that my family dentist is tech-savvy. It's so easy to book a dentist on his smartphone app if I have a tooth problem or if anyone in my family needs emergency problems (I can choose either my normal dentist or another dentist in his practise depending on availability). He also has some great cameras so that we can see exactly what is going on during treatment. I prefer not to see this, but my kids love to be able to see the dentist using his specialised tools to clean and repair their teeth. This blog has some tips on finding a tech-savvy dentist to help give your family the best possible dental care.

4 Guidelines To Follow When Caring For Your Dental Implants

by Jeff Rivera

Tooth loss is probably the most common dental health issue for people of all ages. You could lose your teeth because of a traumatic injury to the face or after suffering from tooth decay. The best way to restore the function of lost teeth is by getting dental implants. Quality implants have components that replace the tooth's function. The implantation process is delicate and needs a lot of recovery time. However, here are four guidelines you should follow when caring for your dental implants.

Get A Brush With Soft Bristles

Brushing is a crucial aspect of recovery after you have had implants installed. It helps remove food particles that could lead to a bacterial infection and sepsis from the mouth. Hard-bristled toothbrushes are not the best for someone recovering from getting dental implants. Often, they are harsh on the enamel of the tooth and can cause damage to the unhealed wound by opening it up. It is advisable to use a nylon-bristled toothbrush or any other material that will not interfere with the healing progress of your implants.

Floss Regularly

Flossing helps remove any food particles stuck in hard-to-access parts of the mouth. A great dental floss will reach between the teeth and extract any food particles stuck there. If these particles are left to accumulate, they often become plaque, which can harm the unhealed wound. They can also cause new cavities to the teeth surrounding the implant and worsen its damage.

Stay Away From Hard And Sticky Foods

Hot, hard and sticky foods are another reason implants fail or have a challenge healing. Hard foods can damage your implant or lead to complete failure, while sticky foods encourage plaque accumulation. The dentist will recommend certain soft foods you can eat throughout the recovery period. You can resume regular meals when your teeth are strong enough.

Avoid Alcohol And Cigarettes

It is also advisable to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption for fast recovery from dental implantation. Alcohol is high in sugar, which promotes tooth decay. Avoiding it, especially when healing from surgery, can minimize dental health complications. Smoking interferes with your circulation and the overall healing process. It might also increase inflammation for a long time after the surgery, which will be uncomfortably painful.

A dentist can give you these and other guidelines once you get dental implants. Consult them about what to do and what to avoid for the best outcome.
