About Me

Booking my dentist by smartphone app

I love that my family dentist is tech-savvy. It's so easy to book a dentist on his smartphone app if I have a tooth problem or if anyone in my family needs emergency problems (I can choose either my normal dentist or another dentist in his practise depending on availability). He also has some great cameras so that we can see exactly what is going on during treatment. I prefer not to see this, but my kids love to be able to see the dentist using his specialised tools to clean and repair their teeth. This blog has some tips on finding a tech-savvy dentist to help give your family the best possible dental care.

5 Reasons to Choose Invisalign for Your Teenage Son or Daughter

by Jeff Rivera

A good time to treat orthodontic problems, such as crowded or crooked teeth, is during your teens. This ensures that by the time you leave school, you'll have a winning smile. But if you are exploring orthodontic treatment options for your teenager, you'll need to take into account the effects that braces can have on a teenager's life. Invisalign braces are ideal for teenagers for several reasons.

1. Minimal effect on self-esteem

Invisalign aligners are almost invisible. This is important because teenagers are often self-conscious about their appearance. Unlike traditional braces, which are visually unappealing, Invisalign won't affect your teenager's self-esteem because each aligner is made of clear plastic. This means your child can attend school and socialize with their classmates without feeling self-conscious.

2. Less pain and discomfort to deal with

Invisalign is much less painful than traditional braces because Invisalign doesn't use metal wires or brackets to move teeth. The soft plastic aligners that Invisalign employs won't irritate your teenager's lips or tongue. And your teenager's orthodontist can easily remove any uncomfortable edges or corners from an aligner.

Your teenager also won't have to undergo the painful process of having their braces tightened every few weeks. Each aligner gently guides teeth a set distance over a two-week period.

3. No need to worry when playing sports

If your teenage son or daughter takes part in sports like rugby or hockey, they can remove their aligners before each game. This will ensure that they don't damage their aligners. They can also avoid painful injuries.

4. No need to avoid certain foods

Eating is an important and fun part of every teenager's life. Traditional braces rule out certain foods, especially chewy or hard foods. But your teenager won't have to miss out on enjoying their favourite meals and snacks with Invisalign. You will remove your aligners when you eat, so there won't be any dietary restrictions.

5. Less time wasted on trips to the dentist

Time is an important asset for teenagers. The same is true for working parents. Since Invisalign generally needs fewer dental check-ups than traditional braces, it's a good option for you and your teenager if you want to save time.

Invisalign is the ideal way for a teenager to undergo orthodontic treatment. As a parent, if you want to ensure that your teenager can correct their orthodontic issues with minimal fuss, choose Invisalign.
