Booking my dentist by smartphone app

I love that my family dentist is tech-savvy. It's so easy to book a dentist on his smartphone app if I have a tooth problem or if anyone in my family needs emergency problems (I can choose either my normal dentist or another dentist in his practise depending on availability). He also has some great cameras so that we can see exactly what is going on during treatment. I prefer not to see this, but my kids love to be able to see the dentist using his specialised tools to clean and repair their teeth. This blog has some tips on finding a tech-savvy dentist to help give your family the best possible dental care.

Why Should You Buy an Ultrasonic Denture Cleaner?

by Jeff Rivera

Some people mistakenly believe that dentures don't need to be cleaned as rigorously as natural teeth. Unfortunately, this is not the case at all. Anything that sits within the oral cavity is going to be subject to bacteria, and bacteria affects more than jusy your natural teeth. In fact, dentures can be even more at risk of developing bacteria since denture plates, unlike the natural tissues in your mouth, are not connected to an immune system.

This is why brushing your dentures each night is so vital, but you should also consider taking the extra step of buying an ultrasonic denture cleaner.

What are ultrasonic denture cleaners?

Ultrasonic cleaners are frequently used in dental offices, but they don't cost as much as you might imagine and are becoming increasingly popular to use in the home. Essentially, they use water that vibrates at ultrasonic speeds to cleanse your dentures. It might seem ridiculous to think that rapidly moving water will clean your dentures in ways that a brush could not, but this is exactly the case.

Complementary Cleaning

Ultrasonic denture cleaners won't actually clean your dentures more effectively than nightly brushing, but what they will do is offer a complementary cleaning process. You see, scrubbing your dentures is a good way to get rid of debris and surface-level bacteria. In contrast, an ultrasonic cleaning unit is good at cleaning at the microscopic level.

What you need to understand about the plates of your dentures is that they are, at the microscopic level, quite scratched and porous. This means that bacteria and other microorganisms can easily exist along the surface and not be bothered at all by regular brushing. The bristles just won't be able to reach them. Instead, you need an ultrasonic cleaning unit.

Reducing smells and disease

If bacteria is allowed to thrive along the porous parts of your dentures, it obviously isn't great for your oral health. The most serious complication that can arise is an exposure of the rest of the mouth to those bacteria, which can lead to significant oral health issues. However, an issue that wearers will often find more immediately troubling is bad breath.

When bacteria is allowed to develop, your breath will start to smell. Additionally, the presence of bacteria will start to affect the food that you eat. If you don't want to have to worry about bad breath or not being able to enjoy your favourite meals, it's a good idea to buy an ultrasonic denture cleaner.
