About Me

Booking my dentist by smartphone app

I love that my family dentist is tech-savvy. It's so easy to book a dentist on his smartphone app if I have a tooth problem or if anyone in my family needs emergency problems (I can choose either my normal dentist or another dentist in his practise depending on availability). He also has some great cameras so that we can see exactly what is going on during treatment. I prefer not to see this, but my kids love to be able to see the dentist using his specialised tools to clean and repair their teeth. This blog has some tips on finding a tech-savvy dentist to help give your family the best possible dental care.

How a Dentist Can Help You Improve Your Appearance

by Jeff Rivera

Do you find that you are comparing the colour of your teeth to other people's on a regular basis now? Are you afraid to wear white T-shirts or blouses, because you think that it "shows up" the shade of your teeth? These are common issues today, especially for younger people, who often worry more about their appearance that they should. You've looked at home-based whitening systems, but would like to get a professional to do it more efficiently. How can your cosmetic dentist help you?

Choosing the Professional Route

Many people have suffered long enough with their dissatisfaction and want to get something done as soon as possible. The dentist is able to help them whiten their teeth in a process that is sometimes known as power bleaching. The type of approach used in the dentist's office can often make a significant difference to even the most severely stained.

How It Works

In order to do this, the dentist will choose a special solution, which is made up of peroxide in high concentrations. This level of concentration is not usually available in the home-based packs and should be applied under professional supervision. The solution is placed directly onto the teeth.

The Process

The first thing that the dentist will do is to isolate the gums and lips so that they don't experience any real irritation. The skin can be protected by using a special rubber dam, or by pasting on another different type of material made from silicone, to act as a barrier. A special gel is applied in trays that are tailored to fit your mouth, over each set of teeth.

The gel is mixed very precisely, so that the right amount of hydrogen peroxide is able to come into contact with the teeth. Much care is applied in order to ensure that the solution does not become too acidic, which could break down the enamel. Usually, a special tool will be used to shine a light on to the surface, which will then help the peroxide do its work more efficiently.

Assessing the Treatment

The dentist will be able to determine how much of an improvement you can get in one visit, according to the condition of your teeth. It's certainly possible to get an improvement of several shades in one sitting, but if your teeth are particularly stained, you may have to come back for several treatments to get the desired outcome.

Making Your Move

So, rather than spending the day looking in the mirror, why not schedule a visit to your cosmetic dentist as soon as possible, to start work?
